EcoDiaries
Wednesday 18th of April
We talked to the English department, and scheduled a meeting with Rosina for the next day in the break. We knew the English department was very interested in clean water, and we thought they would be interested in our project, as a good environment is related to clean water. We planned on telling Rosina about our project, because if she liked it, it would be a great help, as she had been in charge of projects related to clean water before. We would also ask her if she had any ideas. We thought she could help us by putting a good word between teacher, and helping us get volunteers.
We talked with the headmaster, and scheduled a meeting with her for the following Monday (monday the 23rd). We would tell her about our project and ask for her permission and help. We needed the headmaster to like our project. It was essential.
We talked to Ramona, and she didn’t like the idea of introducing vegan meals. We decided to drop it, and not push it, as we didn’t want Ramona not to like us. We decided not to get angry and to learn a lesson from this experience instead of looking at the negative side of things. we learnt that not everything is easy peasy lemon squeezy when trying to run an NGO (or anything in life, for that matter). Sometimes things that you thought would work out don’t, and that’s okay. You just have to reevaluate and think what is best for your project. In this case, we though what was best for our project was letting that drop. We took it out of our plan and thought about what we could do next. We would continue with the project, and do the other things in our list.
Thursday 19th April
Rosina tells us she can’t talk to us today, so we reschedule the meeting for tomorrow.
Friday 20th April
We talk to Rosina and tell her about our project. She tells us she really likes and and thinks it’s a good project. She also tells us she thinks it should be the teachers the ones that pick up trash form the school patio with their classes, and that it shouldn’t be something we organize with volunteers. We also talked to Carolina, and she liked our project.
Monday 23rd April
We talk with the headmaster and she likes our project. She tells us she thinks it very important and that she would like it to continue the following year. She says she will be happy to help us. She thinks we could do an exchange market in school. It was something that was done some years ago, and she thinks it’s a good idea. We come to the conclusion that we could do an exchange market and the things that nobody wants or the things that are left will be donated. She tells us to send her our plan and give her a list of the things we want to do. She also says we have to prioritize, and choose wisely the things we want to do. She tells us we should talk to Isabel Yago (who was our technology teacher two years ago) because she is the director of Ecoescuelas and she could help us.
We are very happy that we got the support of the direction of the school, because without it, we wouldn’t be able to make our project work.
Wednesday 16th May
We hadn’t been able to make a lot of advances in the project because of school work and exams. Today, in Geography and History and in English classes (#so to cool teachers who care about the environment) we visited a lot of digital classes and told them about our project, about Ecosia and taught them how to instal Ecosia on their computers. We visited 9 classes. we installed Ecosia in 5 of them, and we informed the other 4. We installed Ecosia in 110 computers (or in the users). (30 users from 1ºC, 20 from 1ºA, 26 from 3ºD, 12 from PMAR 1 and 13 from 1ºD). We visited four classes (3ºA, 3ºC, 1ºE, Bachillerato) and were only able to inform them, because they weren’t in virtual classrooms. Apart from informing them about Ecosia, we told them about our website and our Social Media. We are going to try to get other teachers to let us go to other classes and inform more students about our project, so that we can get more people to install Ecosia in their computers. We were very happy with today’s result, because we managed to get a lot of people to install Ecosia in their school computers, and informed them about it. Hopefully some of the students we talked to will decide to install it at home or install the app so that they can use it from their phone. While we informed the classes, the teachers also learnt about it, and hopefully some of them will install it. We also gained some followers on Instagram (thanks to our spam), and that will hopefully help us get to more people. We also changed one of our goals. Instead of wanting 500 searches to be made with Ecosia, we want all of the students from 1º to 3º of ESO to install Ecosia in their school computers. After all, if they install it now, they will have it in their computers until they leave school. If we continue this project the following year (we would love to) we would try to get the new people who come to the highschool to install it.

Friday 18th May
We visited some classes, and installed Ecosia in other computers. We installed Ecosia in 37 computers more. We installed Ecosia in 12 computers in 2ºD, and in 25 computers in 3ºD. This means we have installed Ecosia in 147 computers!!
